"We can't wait to get back to a focus on in-person performances, but we know that our online performances do reach a much wider audience, and expose the festival to many who have not had the chance to experience it live.

Mike MacSween: "We've learned through our focus on presenting a virtual festival that there is a HUGE number of people who love the festival around the world! We had over 275,000 "screens" tune into the festival last year from near and far, and judging from their comments, they loved it! I think the opportunity of reaching new audiences in quarantine in various places around the world has shown folks a little glimpse of what Cape Breton is like, what the festival annually presents, and how we rose to the situation as presented."

We asked Celtic Colours executive director Mike MacSween and artistic director Dawn Beaton to weigh on a few questions about this year's event.ĭawn Beaton: "The pandemic certainly has humbled us and our place in the world. 9-16, with a special Festival Club feature on Friday night, October 15, following the live stream. The one-hour matinees will premiere at 2 p.m. "We were pleased to have many of our community volunteers join us as audience - a different role for them than in normal times! Having a small audience for these performances provided the shows with additional life, and great feedback for the artists." "With our programming this year, we wanted to do more to show the true festival experience in some of our longstanding venues around the Island," says Mike MacSween, executive director of Celtic Colours.
